How I Get Shit Done – Time Blocking

I have hesitated to share this for awhile now as I am honestly embarrassed by it.

Which is completely illogical. I think it is because most people don’t do this so I am worried you will think I am super weird. But yesterday I said a moose was my spirit animal so I feel like we have already crossed the weird line anyway, haha.

Calendar blocking is the buzz word but I essentially call it a schedule. And it is my saving grace and how I get shit done. Period.

Call me weird. Judge me. Say it isn’t possible.

But I promise you, if there is a pro tip of all pro tips this is the one. If you have goals and if you want to be successful… anything, you should probably be doing some form of time blocking.

We all have the same 24 hours in a day and I see 99% of people do two things with those 24 hours…

  1. Waste it because they don’t have a schedule to keep them focused
  2. Want to do too much and over commit themselves because they don’t have a schedule and don’t realize it is IMPOSSIBLE to fit everything into it

Often we do both of those things at the same time. We over commit ourselves and want to do too much yet we don’t take advantage of the time we have and we waste it.

Time is by far our biggest asset.

I have “time blocked” for just over a year, so I would consider myself a rookie still. However, it has been the biggest life changer. Not only does it keep me focused and on track and I know what I need to get done on a daily basis. I also realized I wanted to do way, way more than my 24 hours a day 7 days a week could possibly fit.

Which is why I wasn’t getting anywhere with any of my goals.

So what did I do? I had to take some things out of my life to make way for the things that were a higher priority. It wasn’t easy, some of those things I really enjoyed doing but after making my schedule I realized they were getting in the way of the BIG things I wanted to do.

Well it was either that or never sleep. And I NEED my solid 7-8 hours of sleep.

You have to make sacrifices in order to reach your biggest goals.

Here is what part of my current time blocked schedule looks like……

Screen Shot 2018-05-31 at 5.20.45 AM.png

Yes….I literally put EVERYTHING in it from wake up to bed time.

It is also never set in stone. You have to move with the ebbs and flows of life…..and I am a Mom so things can change at a rapid pace. I am flexible with my schedule and the best part is, by using the calendar on my computer I can move my time blocks around to make everything work!

I review my schedule quick before I go to bed and again in the morning and obviously I reference it all day.

No, a day very rarely ever goes perfectly with the schedule but it most certainly keeps me on track and keeps me focused and at the end of the day if I ran out of time for something I move it into another spot on the schedule so I can still get it done.

As time goes on my goals change, my business changes, my personal life changes and so does my schedule. I am constantly tweaking it. And it 100% works for me.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by your life I dare you to try this! If you already time block/schedule your life I would love to hear from you in the comments….

Have an amazing and productive day!

An Idea Is Nothing Without Action

It has been three weeks since I officially closed the store front location of Dusty Road Boutique.

You can read all about that here.

So far it has been a very positive change. I am grateful for the support of everyone in this change and I am also grateful for the lessons I have learned as well.

The biggest lesson I have learned is that when you have an idea you need to take action on it. You must let go of the fears, let go of the excuses, and let go of the perfectionism. And just go for it.

An idea, no matter how great, is nothing until you take action.

I found this quote and it described how I feel to a tee….0c4ec47dd269f18acd63a0cfd7780c8a.jpg

When you have an idea there is a lot of unknowns. But more often then not there is truly no wrong answer.

You just have to make the commitment and go all in. And when I say all in, I mean it. Blood, sweat and tears, you give 100% without any excuses or BS.

There will be bumps and bruises and failures along the way. Take them as learning and growing opportunities on the path to even bigger ideas and actions.

And that is my two cents for the day!

We are all packed up and ready to hit the road bright and early tomorrow morning to the Ladybug Tradeshow in Swift Current.

We have a bit of a drive to get there so I need to get to bed and get my beauty rest.

Have an amazing weekend.

Game Night {Bears vs Babies}

We are switching things up a little today.

Of course since we unboxed these games yesterday we have had to play them a zillion times.

And since I am sure a lot of you have kids who like to play games. Or maybe you liked to play games and make your kids play them with you. Either way, playing card and board games is a great way to spend time together with your family.

Liam and I thought we would do a little review of one of the games.

So we introduce to you Bears vs. Babies.

For starters….the game comes in the most unique and fun furry container (that is the most appropriate way I could describe it, haha).

5 stars for the packaging!

The objective is to build up your army of monsters so you can defeat the enemy babies!

The game includes a variety of “monster parts” that can be stitched together into odd (and hilarious) creatures as well as silly enemy baby cards that are laying in the midst to attack your monsters! There is also a selection of “bonus” cards that can give you extra strength or other advantages.

Players take turns taking “actions” while building up there army of monsters.

Or provoking the babies to attack!

At the end of the game the winner is the person who has won the most battles with the babies.

It’s silly and ridiculous but honestly quite a lot of fun!

Here are a few of the crazy monsters we put together…..

including “A piggy carrying a knife-cat who wears terrific boots”.

And a “Pomeranian of light and wonder in a prom dress on a peg leg”.

And a “Beaver wearing a festive turtleneck who sucks at dancing”.

Did I mention the game is kind of ridiculous and definitely the source of some laughter.

There is a bit of a learning curve to get to know to rules of the game but once you have a round under your belt it is quite easy to play. It is rated for ages 10+ but Liam is 8 and had no problem grasping the concept and he had a blast putting together his monsters.

Another great bonus is the game is just the perfect length to play. It holds everyones attention and doesn’t go on forever and ever.

Liam scores this game 5 out of 5 stars and I score this game 4 out of 5 stars.

It is definitely geared more towards the younger crowd which is perfect if you are looking for a unique and fun way to spend some time with your kids!

I would love to know if anyone else has tried out this game and what you think.

PS. I was definitely not paid for this review, it was just Liam and myself having some fun playing a new game and wanted to share our experience!

I Checked A Goal Off My List

It’s Daily Blog #10!

Thanks so much to everyone who has followed along thus far. It’s truly been somewhat of a therapy to write down my daily thoughts here. And to those who have reached out to share your support via messages, comments, or in person…..thank you! I appreciate each and every one of you!

I was flipping through my Facebook pictures early this morning and came across this picture/quote I took from last summer. It seemed fitting as my hubby had an important meeting today…….I sent it to him for inspiration, lol.

10 points if you can guess where I took the picture!!!

And since my hubby was away on meetings I got to drive the “Old Beast” again! If you don’t know about the “Old Beast” I introduced her here. She is getting pretty dusty and stuffy inside so I am thinking a good spring cleaning is in order!

I spent the morning and part of the afternoon at the store turned warehouse catching up on shipping packages! It has been a busy week thanks to all of my awesome customers!!

Here is a pic of the store floor which I am temporarily converting into a mini warehouse until we figure out what we are doing.

The building is also for sale… if you know of someone looking for an opportunity, send them my way! IMG_2659.jpg

Who doesn’t love a sneak peek?

These beauties (the picture doesn’t do them justice) just came in today. They will be available on Tuesdays upload and will also be coming with us to our pop up store in Swift Current on May 5th!IMG_2662.jpg

The highlight of the day…….

My hubby surprised me and stopped by the dealership and picked up my new cargo trailer!!!IMG_2663.jpg

I am seriously way over excited about this!

It has been on my goal list for quite a few years to convert a cargo trailer into a travelling boutique and with the recent changes to the store and the plan to do more pop ups we decided (or rather I convinced my husband) to go for it!

He reminded me several times that I will need to sell A LOT of clothes to pay for it.

He is always the voice of reason in our house, lol.

I can’t wait to get it wrapped with the DRB logo……I photoshopped it on to see what it it looked like.

Love it!

And that’s a wrap! Haha, see what I did there?

I hope you have an amazing day and remember, ”you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”

Feeling Shitty

I had big plans to catch up on some work today but my body had other ideas. I woke up with a throbbing headache, my stomach was unsettled, and I felt like I was burning up.

So I rested instead.

It was super hard to just give myself permission to do nothing. Sometimes it is just a necessity.

Now I am even further behind but I am feeling a bit better.

We often take our health for granted and that’s a bad idea. I know better but it is still a struggle. It is just so easy to put ourselves last. To keep putting off self care. “I’ll start eating healthy next week” or “I’ll go to bed early tomorrow night”. I could go on and on but we all know how it goes.

It is days like today that remind me that I should be a priority. That my well being should be a priority.

But it isn’t that easy to just flip that switch. It takes hard work and a proper mindset. Especially when it comes to eating healthy and exercising.

I am definitely not going to sit here and say that tomorrow I am going to start doing those things.

I want to make some changes. I have recently made some changes but struggle to stick with it so I am not going to make any claims or announce anything I can’t follow up on.

The struggle is real and I know many can relate.

However I need to keep reminding myself…..

It would be awfully hard to achieve my goals and live my dreams if I am worn out, tired, and sick.

And not just on days like today when I am feeling shitty.

Everyday I need to remember that.

Anyhow……I did manage to get outside for a bit today and enjoy the beautiful spring weather. Thanks to my hubby for dragging me outside!

I snapped a few pics of some of the cattle we have for sale on our farm.Triple Play 18E.jpg

Triple Play 19E.jpg

Aren’t these girls so pretty? Haha. Definitely a switch up from all the clothes I have been photographing and posting lately!

It was good to catch some fresh air and feel the warmth from the sun (finally).

Since all I did today was look at my cows and lay on the couch there isn’t much more I can share.

Just remember, it’s okay to listen to your body and give yourself permission to have a rest day if you need it.

Guilt free!
